The Mission

The Peking to Paris Rally is a recreation of the 1907 challenge issued by Le Matin, "Is there anyone who will undertake to travel this summer from Peking to Paris by automobile?"
The 2016 version will follow a route of 13,695 Km (8,510 miles) and take 35 days. We are travelling in Rhubarb and Custard, a 1936 Buick. We know nothing about cars or rallying.

RPS Video

RPS has produced a lovely film of the cars they have prepared for PtoP 2016.  I initially thought that CLM 570 didn't appear but I've been told it does at 50 secs).  Follow the link below to watch it.

Packing List

I thought it might be interesting to see a copy of our packing list.  This excludes the camping equipment and personal items.  It includes fluids that cannot be packed during transit to China.

Use the link below to access the list as a pdf

Here's Steve of RPS working on car no. 16 and displaying his special hat.

RPS have put a map of the route on all of their cars - for when we get lost.

A last picture of CLM 570 before she is shipped to China.  Good luck on the crossing old girl.

Packing

The packing process from start to finish.

The car goes to CARS Europe tomorrow and has now gone to China as far as we are concerned.

Entrants

We were at RPS today for a final look at the car.

so many P to P cars in their workshop it was amazing!

They are absolutely beautiful and put CLM 570 to shame.

Tense

Over the weekend we tested our tent. Actually we tested our several tents.

We had two one man 'Festival' tents that were most excellent to pop up from their bags and easy to disassemble as well.  However a bit of work on the internet revealed that they were useless in bad weather.

We also had a superb three man pop up that was most ingenious in the way it folded down and was extremely luxurious, but it was too big when packed away and so rejected.

Next up was the one man blue tent pictured. the photo shows the fourth and last attempt to erect this beast, which is not coming on the trip.

Finally we have the green two man igloo, shown here in Richard's kitchen, but he did spend a rainy London night in it.  Not a pop up but he says it's all good and so it has gone into the car.
