The Mission

The Peking to Paris Rally is a recreation of the 1907 challenge issued by Le Matin, "Is there anyone who will undertake to travel this summer from Peking to Paris by automobile?"
The 2016 version will follow a route of 13,695 Km (8,510 miles) and take 35 days. We are travelling in Rhubarb and Custard, a 1936 Buick. We know nothing about cars or rallying.

Our Charity

Rhubarb and Custard is raising money for Aston University Medical School. This is the first new medical school in Birmingham for 200 years.

Medical schools have the ability to dramatically improve public health in their communities and Birmingham has health outcomes that are considerably poorer than the rest of the UK (twice the level of childhood mortality). Aston Medical School will support 20 free scholarship places and  Aston is working with schools from the most deprived areas of Birmingham to train, mentor and support students that otherwise might not have the opportunity to consider a degree in medicine and become doctors. You can read more about Aston Medical School at http://www.aston.ac.uk/aston-medical-school/

The university has set up a Just Giving page as a way for students, staff, alumni and others to support this initiative. They have a target of raising £1 for every km we cover, with all proceeds going to Aston's Medical School. Visit the just giving page https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Neil-Lawson-May and follow our blog and help us support Birmingham's next generation of doctors.
